A TRUE STORY Meet Hal and Russ. Hal is 81 years old, a World War II Veteran who takes care of his invalid wife at home. Hal has been worried that someday his wife would require more care and he would not be able to afford the high cost of a professional caregiver. In addition, Hal worried that he would not be able to afford professional health care at home and be forced into a Nursing Home on Medicaid. At his VFW meeting, Hal learned of two little known VA programs that could really help him with his financial dilemma. |
The first VA program called IMPROVED PENSION would pay up to $1,220 per month for Hal's wife's health care cost even though he could be healthy.
The second VA program called AID & ATTENDANCE would pay the following 2008 benefits for home, assisted living or nursing home care:
| VETERAN VETERAN AND SPOUSE SURVIVING SPOUSE OF VETERAN |
$1554.00 MONTHLY $1842.00 MONTHLY $ 998.00 MONTHLY |
Russ pointed out that there are
qualifications and restrictions and receiving these VA Benefits are
automatic.
An assessment was made to determine Hal's qualification for benefits and he was relieved to know that he would qualify when the benefit would be needed.
