HOW I GOT STARTED
Retirement was a complete disaster for me.....how boring!
I had been in competitive athletics until age 21, an Army Infantry Platoon Leader, FBI Agent and Warden of the maximum security prison in Indiana by age 29. After a career in the Insurance and Financial service business for 23 years and age 65 I decided to retire and "enjoy life".....how boring!
One Sunday after church a lady in my bible study class that I had taught for 18 years approached me and wanted to see me in private. She told me that when she and her husband retired over 20 years ago they had a good income and a beautiful home but after her husband had been in our local care center for the past 13 months at $5,300 per month she was almost financially exhausted. She thought she didn't qualify for Medicaid because her income and assets, and wanted me to help find a way for financial assistance.
This short conversation after church had lead me on a new and exciting career from helping people acquire wealth to protecting their wealth from the catastrophe of growing old.
I reopened my office in Merrillville, Indiana, work with 3 Elder Law Attorneys, an accounting firm and present seminars 2 to 3 times a month.
Most rewarding to me has been working with Long Term Health Care Professionals who are in the front line every day helping the elderly.....I could not do their job.
As Warden of the Indiana State Prison, I never rehabilitated one inmate in 5 years but I have helped hundreds of people throughout Indiana and Illinois.
It appears to me that there is a financial advisor in every bank in America and they advertise on every third radio and TV commercial but no one is advising the elderly on how to avoid losing everything to Long Tem Care Cost.
My bible study class lady made me realize that no matter how much money you make in your investments you can lose it all quickly when you need help with health care.
